Tincman Herps UV LED Basking Spotlight Type 2
$39.95
This is our current most powerful UV LED spotlight product. (at just 3 Watts its over 2X more output than Type 1) Note this is still not a stand alone vivarium LED and sold as a supplemental UV Basking LED only. Also note, these LEDs are very low output at 4 Watts & not intended for Reptiles that require/demand high outputs of UV for proper metabolism, these are being sold purely as an easy safe low heat way to introduce some small amounts of UV to your Dart frogs as we feel it is beneficial when applied correctly at proper distance.
We are excited to offer our first run of True UV LED Bulbs, this is a relatively new technology & we like these particular LEDS for the Dart frog hobby for the following reasons…
These Type 2 Tincman UV LEDs use only 3 watts of power & are designed to be used in conjunction with our other LED lights because they’re not very bright. Dart Frogs derive most of their calcium/D3 through ingestion/supplementation & are able to metabolize D3 well enough to live without UV, however there is data to suggest UV may play a role in further assisting in metabolism, also increasing fertility/breeding outcomes in Oophaga.
Use- The cool thing we like to do is set these up to come on an hour before the main lights & perhaps cut back your main lights out time and have the UV LED come on again an hour after main lights go out. Being that they’re so dim you create a sunrise and sunset effect on your vivarium & provide a basking area with full UV index (all be it more UVB heavy with this Bulb). As a supplemental basking light you introduce some UVB & Trace amounts of UVA to your animal. They also give off very little heat at all and are safe to use nearly right on top of glass tanks & directly sit on Screen tops. The Type 2 UV bulbs have Both UVA & UVB, with more than 2 times the UVB output of our type 1 model! the UVA is about the same as our type 1 product. Note another perk of this model is that it is designed to fit snug just inside of our Clamp Lamps and have a nice finished look. We use our UV bulbs 2 hours daily. One hour before main lights come on and one hour after they go out. Really has a nice affect on frogs as they feel more comfortable having a period with light but not an overwhelmingly bright light.
Please note, as with any UV Bulbs, you must have either low iron glass or quartz or the easiest way is to mount right above screening area to get UV radiation to penetrate. At Tincman we have drilled holes to the exact diameter of our UV LEDS heads & siliconed screening right above a ledge we have designed into our new large obligate tanks so that the UV basking areas are always about 4″ from the LED (for this Type 2 LED your basking Ledge can be up to 6-7″ away with decent transfer of UV. This ensures proper radiation transfer to the animal as these bulbs are not high powered enough to reach the bottom of tall Vivaria. The ledge is also used as a calling spot for male Oophaga, most of the Top Large obligate breeders we have consulted believe the ledge alone is helpful in breeding, but the amphibian biologists we spoke with also recommend UV for all Oophaga & frogs if possible. Its found in nature, now it can safely be found in your Vivaria as a supplemental very low heat & consumption add on.
All Tincman UV LEDs come with a 9 month Product replacement warranty against malfunction. We recommend testing all UV bulbs around 5-6 months age for degradation and replacing as needed. * LEDs are not sold on a trial basis, all sales are final & warranty claims are the only returns accepted*
